St. Petersburg Corridor – Heart of Northern Dimension

“St. Petersburg Corridor”, the Regional Partnership of Southeast Finland (Kymenlaakso, South Karelia and South Savo Regions) and the City of St. Petersburg and its surrounding areas, is different from the traditional cross-border trade approach: the main objective of the partnership is to establish a unique cooperation area on the EU-Russian border with prerequisites for improved welfare, sustainable social and economic development, and increased investments on both sides of the border.

The St. Petersburg Corridor, a new type of strategic regional partnership, aims to establish systematic long-term cooperation with various authorities, companies and other organizations, and the general public in the region. The Partnership focuses on five jointly agreed cooperation priorities: business, innovation, environment protection & technology, tourism, and logistics.

St. Petersburg and Southeast Finland have been developing more efficient joint operational models since the end of 2002. A significant milestone on this journey was the signing of a Southeast Finland and St. Petersburg cooperation partnership in March 2007 by six mayors of Southeast Finland and the committees of the City of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Oblast. The five Finnish-Russian work groups of St. Petersburg Corridor are a unique combination: the operational plan of the regional partnership is based on the work conducted by 200 experts and authorities.
